Embracing Uncertainty
As I said on Sunday, I'm no movie director but it seems to me that the greatest Hollywood films have at least one thing in common: romantic or dramatic uncertainty. Cases in point for dramatic uncertainty - Gladiator. Case in point for romantic uncertainty - Sleepless in Seattle. I would suggest that learning to embrace uncertainty in our lives is a key component to our success in chasing lions. It is the spiritual certainties in our lives - the forgiveness of sins, our position in Christ - that allow us to deal with the circumstantial uncertainties in our lives. How have you seen this truth played out in your life? How do you best deal with circumstantial uncertainties? How do those uncertainties affect your spiritual journey?

I was struck by a comment that you made, that Benaiah didn't plan or even expect to be in his circumstances. It led me down a trail of thinking. He probably didn't even want to be in those situations. But I bet he prepared for them daily... You don't get out of any of his "circumstances" alive unless you've trained intensely.
On the spiritual side, take any "great" in the Bible, Noah probably didn't want a flood, but he was prepared to do what God asked because he knew what God was like, he'd spent enough time with God to nail down the certainties so he could skim over the uncertainties. In fact it's his faith in response to the uncertainties that gets him noted in the Bible. Same with the others.
Not to say that he probably wasn't sweating the circumstances while he was in the middle.
I love the concept of the training that was no doubt involved in allowing Benaiah to respond to each circumstance. All the training he did to prepare for combat as one of David's soldiers came in handy in those situations.
We can make a spiritual comparison about training ourselves to embrace uncertainty. As I have experienced this week, you have to train yourself to embrace uncertainty. It is not something that comes naturally!
